Anna Khachatryan
June 15, 2018
This combination of unfiltered grief and immense happiness is a common feature of the Armenian folk genre.
Genre | Ethno folk; pop; folk dance; mashup |
Released | 2010 |
Location | Armenia; Mush |
Duration | 4:44 |
One of the strongest vocalists to come out of Armenia in the past decade is Anna Khachatryan. Her style ranges from contemporary pop to hard rock to traditional Armenian folk songs. This mashup of the ironic Sasuntsi kef song, "Nino," and Mush standard, "Msho Gorani," is a surefire hit at dance parties.
Excerpts
Though "Nino" is always performed in an upbeat way, it is—at its core—a song of lament. The chorus reverberates, “Nino rejected me, I’m sad while my love is having a party.” "Msho Gorani" is a slow-tempo song of longing for the plains of Mush and the singer’s lover. The combination of the two songs is quite popular, especially at weddings and other celebrations.
